I love when someone can rock one. They're gorgeous and I do think they represent something, but not necessarily a 'black power' movement thing. I suppose, it's mostly because of the social suggestions that come with 'straight' hair (and more specifically straightening ethnic hair) that make something so big and poofy seem so rebellious, but when I pass a nice afro I can't help but admire it.
Like, damn. You know? <3

My girlfriend is African-American and I'm really excited for her to grow it naturally (we buzzed it a month or so ago). I don't feel like there are any serious, present-day associations connecting it to the Black Power movement, but even if there were, so what? There's no shame in pride.

Adore them. I love big hair in general and afros are like the mother of all big hair. I think they create presence.

they are adorbz... My opinion is that the world needs more fro'age, on everyone.
I get a pretty good Jewfro at short lengths, but I look like the brunette cousin of Ronald McDonald as a result, so I tend to wrap my hair up or brush it out as it dries so that it doesn't stick straight up off my head. This is after a whole day of being under a scarf... the curl's been mostly flattened out, the poofiness about halfway so... you can imagine how spherical and big it gets when not interfered with:
This one guy at my university has one of the best Jewfros. It's this golden-brown sphere of majesty. I've seen him put pencils in it for later use. Unfortunately he cut it all off but is apparently growing it back now. This is the best photo I can find:
o ya u wanna lick it
I'll be completely honest, in high school I definitely brushed out my hair and tried to hide the fact that it was curly, even when it was longer. And when a paint accident left me with a short granny haircut that fro'ed, I ended up unintentionally making myself look even more ridiculous by trying to flatten it out every day. And I told myself I'd let it poof out now that it's short again, but I'm having trouble getting comfortable with it. The thing is when I've let it go wild, people compliment it and ask me what products I use (none, lul), to my surprise. But I can't bring myself to do it all the time, still...
