Ok, so I've decided to create this topic because I'm new to this website and it's been a month now. I've really enjoyed participating in the forum, and I can't help to notice all these topics in the Site section asking for help on how to get noticed or getting more hyped. Obviously all the forum regulars who would have seen that same topic title about a million times will start to get irritated. So I've decided to create this to help all the new users who don't really understand LB and this will hopefully reduce the number of topics asking for help on hypes/karma/popularity. I would also like to say I'm no master and I'm kind of a newbie myself but this is what I think are the right things to do and what some of the 'seniors' say ...
Oh and I also know you can't sticky a thread on LB Forum as of yet, but I will try my best to keep this on view to new users, so they don't create new threads. Let's get started.
Mini-update: This thread has now been stickied :) Woo

|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*| Hypes/Popularity |*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- Posting Good Pictures -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
No, that doesn't mean your looks are bad, it means make sure in order to achieve as much attention as you can (towards your look) that your picture in good quality.
A picture with the same outfit, same person, will get more hype if it was properly displayed (using a nice camera) rather than a picture took by a mobile phone. (not that there is anything wrong with mobile phone pictures, but it's just not enough for LB). Make sure the picture is clear and not blurry (unless you're focusing on an object e.g ring, necklace, etc …) otherwise people won't be able to clearly see the outfit and result in not getting hyped. Another important rule is to follow the LB guidelines, so don't upload a picture with your friend in it, or a picture that has more than 3 photo collage, this will make people flag you and not hype you.
Guideline Reminder:
1. Full body photos are required
2. Outfits must be unobstructed, clearly visible and free from unnecessary distractions.
3. No more than one look per photo
4. You must be in the photo. (unless you're a designer)
5. No more than 3 views of an outfit
6. Don't repost photos
7. Don't post ads or spam
8. Don't post photos that don't belong to you
9. No nudity
10. No photos of children
So there you have it, follow them and you will be sure to remain on the good side and people won't flag your looks :)
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- Participate in the community -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
Another 'slow but sure' ways to get known/seen is to participate in the community and by community I don't only mean on the forum, but also on LB pictures. Post comments, let them know what you like in their outfit. Usually if I receive a comment, I always go check the person's page, and I know a lot of other people do that. So make sure you post comments and hopefully increase your audience too. Again, participating in the forum brings a lot of attention towards your page, that doesn't necessarily making a new topic every 10 minutes or replying to other threads with spams. Just regularly drop in the forum, participate in the discussion, who knows, you might be able to help out someone's problem or you have the answer to someone's confusion.
Also, do not post threads in the forum asking for hypes, because that will only make people not want to visit your page, there is already a thread where you can post your latest look. It will be hard to start out on the forum, but once you're in it, you will most definitely enjoy it! Here are two threads I always go to check out ...
Post your newest look thread
Your favourite look from the previous user thread
And also, (just remembered) when you post a comment on people's picture don't add the 'hype my looks too' or 'check out my looks too' at the end of your message, this will only make people not want to visit your page/looks. Depending on their fame, usually people will visit your page if you have commented on their look.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- Looks -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Last but not least, post some good outfit, you can't expect to have a picture in your boxers and get many hypes for it. So be creative, let the world know about your fashion, and be happy posting!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*| Karma |*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Karma is a system that LookBook has created which represents how many hypes all of your looks have generated.
When you see "Karma: 50/10" it simply means that :
50 is the number of hypes you have received with all your looks together
10 is your average number of hypes, so if this person has 5 looks, the average will be 10. (50 divided by 5 = 10)
Karma Filter (KF) is another device which relates to a person's Karma. This device can also be turned on or off.
When turned on, you will be able to see NEW looks from users who have already established a good karma level (usually similar or higher than yours).
So the higher the karma, the 'better' the looks will be (this isn't true in my opinion but it's what LB is saying) However you won't be able to see looks from new users,
so switching it off from time to time will help you find hidden beauties and improve the overall community.
** More information provided by Jen: **
"There is no specific rating that gets your looks shown to people with their filters on moderate, or strict - so don't ask what the magic number is that gets your looks seen by everyone, because it doesn't exist. People with lower karma ratings are still shown on both of these filters, but more sporadically. Different people browsing the new page with filters on will see some of the same looks from users with established ratings, but a more varied array of looks from users with lower ratings. Did I explain this well enough? If anyone's still unclear, please feel free to ask me anything karma-related; I seem to understand its mysteries. If you want to know how the hot page is sorted, though, you're on your own."

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before...
But what happens to the older looks?
I used to be able to see all my looks in my profile.
Now I'm only able to see 36 looks.
The rest of them are not there anymore..
lookbook.nu/user/639229-Z-a-h-e-r/looks
So do they get deleted?

Can someone please explain to me how to make my picture appear "taller" when i post it. What I mean is - when I put two portrait images together and upload them they appear quite small on the page, but some lookbookers' pictures take up the whole page when you're scrolling through. Someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thank you!

I don't your looks are supposed to disappear unless they violate one of the rules. It still says you have 79 looks so it seems like you should be able to to see all your looks by scrolling down (they will need to load as you get to the bottom of the page). When I tried it on your page I saw all 79 of your looks! So I think they are still there.

I really agree with your tips on how to get hypes and all the photo things. Sadly, I'm a person that doesn't have a great camera or a camera that's not installed in my phone but I guess I'm okay with my phone's camera since it's the easiest thing to carry around and not to mention very accessible. Hahaha! But I do hope I get more hypes even if I'm just using a camera phone to take my looks.

I think what you can do is edit it beforehand and make sure that the resolution is at it's highest possible without making it look awkward. And, I think the reason why some lookbookers have a bigger photo than you is due to the resolution that their photos have.

Thank you for your answer! Ive tried that though, I mean I have a Canon 450D so the pictures themselves are in very high resolution. So I have no clue why they shrink when I upload them to lookbook.

Reposting is against the rules and I tend to dislike people who do it..
If you post a look you'll get hypes for the look, then if you delete it you still keep the hype you originally got for it even though you have deleted the look. Then upload it again, get more hypes, delete it, and so If you keep repeating this you'll get lots of hype again and again all for the same look.
As I say, its against the rules to repost but alot of people do it, especially the 'top' LB members, I hate when people do it.

OK! when we plan to post a new look, there will be 3 steps, first make a name of your look, second, label out the item of your book , third, more explaination of your look.
I just so curious that some people could paste the photo on the column which for the further explaination of the photo, but I just can not paste any photo there, It can only accept the text information!
Can anyone tell me how to do with this? OR Is it violation of the LB rules?
Thx so!!!

Dunno if you found the solution already but here is it:
You need to crop your pictures and put them together on your own by using software like Paint, Gimp etc. There is no function on LB to add more pictures to a look.
