what do you guys know about lomo cameras? are they good for everyday 'hanging out with friends' pictures? i had a kodak camera but i don't use it cause the batteries run out every 15 minutes and it's extremely irritating. would you recommend i buy one? the prices i found online were around 50 pounds, that seem reasonable? almost 3 years ago |

i got a diana mini a little over a month ago.
i've finished 4 rolls of film and i'm taking them to get developed tomorrow
i think the only downside to using it as a "hanging out with friends" camera is that you never know how the picture will turn out, if at all.
also it took a full roll of experimenting before i got the hang of using it.
it's really fun to use, i'll let you know how my pictures turn out when i get them back!

I have a holga 135mm and I love it.
(and I love using it to take pictures of my friends.)
when I first got it, I did a roll of film just kind of as a test and got that one developed before I did any more rolls.
I think if the camera you get doesn't come with a flash, you should definitely buy one, half the time I take pictures I a flash I bought separately.

I have a Diana F+ in the Dreamer color, and taking pictures is fairly easy to do, as is learning how to use it.. but the only problem is that I can't find anyone to develop it in my area. But yes, you should definitely get flash!
They make really pretty collectibles too.

oh okay, that's good to know! so are they hard to get developped? do we need someone who specializes? and when they get it developped, is there any way I can get them saved digitally as well? this may be a really stupid question sorry ^^

Well, in my area its hard to find someone who develops 120mm film, but you can always get an instant back (instant photos like a polaroid!) or a 35mm film back, which allows you to use 35 mm film, the standard.
And you can get them saved digitally, if you have a scanner of some sort at home. I also believe at some film shops, you can give them a roll of film, and have them copy it to a cd :)

oh really, instant back sounds really cool ^^ I'll definitely look into that. Woah, I know a lot more now but I'll have to decide on what I want eventually. One of my last questions probably: in what price ranges do you find lomo cameras? on the internet I saw some around 40/50 pounds (I'm in England at the moment) but I don't know if those are second hand. Thanks to everyone once more for all the great advice! :)

Hmm, I got mine for roughly sixty dollars or so; many of them are in the price range from as low as $50 (when you wait for it to be on sale) to as high as $300+ (these are digital lomography cameras). Most of them are $70-$120 dollars though! Not too expensive :)

Oh that's great then :) I really think I might just buy one soon. The thing is my Kodak camera -- a kodak easyshare z915 -- (I just needed a camera and it was on sale) is highly irritating. I don't know if it's Kodak but the batteries run out every 5 minutes! Other than that I have no problems with it so it would be a shame to already buy a new camera but I can't take pictures with it seeing as it keeps dying on me :)

Haha, well, I don't think it should run out of battery every 5 minutes! A new camera would probably be good.

I hesitate over everything for ages before reaching a decision. So I'll probably google lomo cameras and polaroids to find out everything I can. Whichever one's easiest/cheapes will win ^^ they're both rather awesome so I'll love whichever one I get just because it's mine :)
