Sometimes, the fashion world gets really excited about a certain trend (Balmain’s strong shoulder, the skinny jean) and everyone rushes to wear it. But not every silhouette is for every body. I recommend wearing the silhouettes that make you feel confident: sometimes finding a timeless silhouette is more practical than chasing trends. I always experiment with trendy silhouettes but I settle on what is right for me.
To find the fit that works for you, you have to be realistic: if you have a body part that you feel insecure about, don’t try to hide it with clothing. Use it to your advantage. For example, I’ve mentioned before that my hips are my biggest fear. If I gain or loose any weight, it all goes directly to my hips. Basically, my hip is the thickest part of my body and my upper body is long.
I’m a huge fan of high waisted bottoms because they show off my problem area by flattering it. High waisted pants, shorts and skirts help elongate my hips and make my body look longer. The silhouette is versatile and sexy yet sophisticated. I love wearing highwaisted skirts or shorts with a voluminous blouse tucked in. It’s a classic look that you can’t go wrong with. If you want to dress down a hightwaisted bottom you always can throw on a loose white tee-shirt and a pair of gladiator sandals or wedges for a great look this Spring. Happy April everyone!!! xoxo Nini Nguyen
