Advice as to where to stay in london

I am going to london in july and i need to know the most affordable and safe places to stay there. There are so many options I don't know what's best, be it cheap hotel, hostel, or a vacation rental (an apt)

When it comes to price, the closer to central london you are, the more expensive it's going to be. So if you're prepared to pay a bit extra for travel research hotels that are a bit further out. Personally I like most areas of North London, and anywhere is ok really. Personally I'd avoid staying in south london, though.
So it all depends on how close to central London you want to be (:

around marble arch it's actually not too expensive for example put "Boston Court Hotel" in google.
The hotel isn't great, but at least it's not as bad as a hostel :)

Hampstead is a really nice area and a short tube ride to central London. You should look at the Langorf Hotel. They are incredibly nice because I was there during this terrible volcano issue and they worried that we were running out of money so they gave us free breakfest and pizza at night. And it's fairly cheap....

you could stay in the borders of surrey/london where i live and then its like a 20 minute train journey into london, will be a lot cheaper than staying in london itself but you still get to see it all pretty easily trains arent too expensive either cos its in all the zones. where abouts in london are you planning on going?

try and stay in a YHA in london, theres one in hampstead and i think there is a few more around london, but i dunno. usually you have to cater for yourself. so it works out cheaper

Yeah hamstead is loveeely, I was there last week and fell in love.
But really I think it all depends on if you get a good deal at the right time. We stayed in a little B&B right by Hype Park once and it was quite cheap, so good deals are out there

Avoid staying in South London? It's more reasonable pricing and alot more to do there than North!
and yeah I agree with Surrey :) you can go straight to Morden and Wimbledon where there a tube stations and it's very easy to get to Waterloo/Clapham Junction etc.

I was staying in Piccadilly backpackers hostel. It's not much. But all I need was roof over my head at night, because most of the time I was out. The rooms are interesting (they are painted) and the hostel is in the central London (so you don't really need any travelling tickets to see the sights of LDN). The Clink and Generator are also pretty cool but they're bit further .

I tried Clink but it was dirty and awful!! So I moved to Generator hostel, in Russel square...I booked a place in a female dorm, not so expensive! The room was clean and lovely( all pink with a lot of mirrors!). But...hostel is ok for a few days i think, not more...if u are going in london for a month, i advice u to book a flat, or a room in a flat shared with young people and student..i did, was super funny:-) good luck!
